If you own a RAM truck, chances are that there’s a HEMI V8 engine under the hood and the 5.7-liter is among the most popular options. The engine has been in RAM’s offering for years now and it proved to be stable and reliable for long-term use.

However, certain issues may occur for which you may need the RAM 5.7L (345 cu in) firing order to resolve. If that’s the case, don’t worry – our team of dedicated automotive experts will lead the way with this guide on the engine’s firing sequence and the cylinder configuration.

RAM 5.7L firing order

The 5.7-liter RAM engine is the HEMI V8 so it’s the same engine used by other brands like Dodge and Chrysler. So, the RAM 5.7L firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, and you can rest assured that the firing order is the same for all HEMI V8 engines.

While that makes your job a bit easier, it’s still important to figure out the cylinder positions before you get to work on the engine. This engine in particular has some issues with frequent wear of spark plugs and ignition coils, so you can check up on these by using the firing order.

For that to work, you’ll have to pay attention to the following section with cylinder position information for this particular engine.

RAM 5.7L cylinder diagram

Being a HEMI V8, the 5.7-liter engine has two cylinder banks with four cylinders each. The first cylinder is on the right side of the driver’s side bank along with cylinders 3, 5, and 7. Even cylinder numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8 are on the opposite side or the passenger’s side in other words.

Finding the first cylinder is the best start when using the firing order, so you should look for the front-most cylinder on the driver’s side.

RAM 5.7L vehicle applications

The only thing left for us to discuss in this guide is to give you a list of all the RAM models using this engine along with a few other brands and their models. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 has been used by various vehicles, so here’s the full list:

  • RAM 1500
  • RAM 2500
  • RAM 3500
  • Chrysler 300
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • Chrysler Aspen
  • Jeep Wagoneer

The same HEMI engine has also been used in the Dodge Challenger R/T, so all these vehicles equipped with the 5.7-liter engine use the firing order we’ve outlined.

Our take

Overall, the 5.7-liter engine is a pretty reliable option if you maintain it the right way, and we hope that this guide has helped you with that. Using the firing order can help prevent misfires and other similar issues so we hope this guide will aid you in the effort to make the engine last a while longer.
