General Motors, or GM, is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1908 as a holding company for Buick, Cadillac, and Oldsmobile, GM soon became the largest automaker in the world. Today, GM produces cars and trucks under eight brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall, and Wuling. In addition to its automotive businesses, GM also has a financial services arm that provides financing for customers and dealers. GM has operations in over 140 countries and employs about 212,000 people.
