An active pedestrian protection system is a vehicle safety feature that uses sensors to detect pedestrians and cyclists in the vehicle’s path and then takes steps to avoid or mitigate a collision. These systems can be found on both cars and trucks and are designed to protect not only the occupants of the vehicle but also pedestrians and cyclists outside of it.

Active pedestrian protection systems are becoming increasingly common, as they are effective at preventing or mitigating collisions. Some systems, such as those found on Volvo cars, can even detect pedestrians in low-light conditions or when other objects obscure them. As these systems become more widespread, the number of pedestrian and cyclist fatalities will likely decrease.
