Bead of the wheel or tire bead is a phrase used to describe the outermost edge of a wheel. This area is often raised and reinforced to provide additional strength and durability to the wheel. Beads of wheel can also help to improve the grip of a wheel on a surface, making it less likely to slip or skid. The bead of a tire must be strong enough to keep the tire properly seated on the wheel under all operating conditions, including during high-speed turns and when encountering bumps in the road. A properly inflated tire also helps to protect the wheel from damage. If a tire goes flat, it can cause the bead to come loose from the rim, potentially leading to a dangerous situation.
